More than just ‘twaddle’
Psychics are so popular that they’re cropping up on prime-time TV as well as in Selfridges and living rooms.
Rosa Derriviere, 58, has made such a success of her clairvoyance that she was employed as the resident psychic for Big Brother’s Bit On The Side. A former receptionist, Rosa’s spiritual floodgates opened after a near-death experience in her mid-20s, and now she makes a living doing cosmic readings (based on the stars) and divining futures with her deck of Tarot cards. Her gift may even be in the blood - Rosa’s mother was a psychic and her grandma was a spiritual healer, so she’s carrying on the family business.
“For readings, I’ll ask a client to select 18 cards that they choose themselves,” she explains. “The cards are able to reflect where you are in your life and where you might be headed, although I am very careful about how I present information to people: illness and health come up a lot, and they need to be dealt with sensitively.”
The clairvoyant admits that the word ‘psychic’ can conjure up cynicism from people who don’t buy it. “A lot of people think it’s a load of twaddle,” she says. “But they’re not the people who come and see me.”
